PURPOSE & PRINCIPLES
Our purpose is to help people live better lives by providing better breakfasts. Our founders set Weetabix up in 1932 with this ambition and we remain true to their purpose today.
Our purpose is to help people live better lives by providing better breakfasts. Our founders set Weetabix up in 1932 with this ambition and we remain true to their purpose today.
We want to nourish the nation with better breakfasts that help them to live better lives, so we’ve made it our mission to delight consumers with great tasting, nutritious breakfasts produced with passion and excellence.
At the heart of our purpose is our people and we firmly believe that a company is only as good as the people within it. We are always striving to make our workplaces fair, empowering and inclusive, so people can be at their best. Encouraging career progression for all colleagues in our business, has always been, and remains at the heart of our leadership team’s agenda.
We take our responsibilities seriously. It’s why we minimise waste, promote socially responsible activities, and make tasty, nutritious products. We’ve been working hard to ensure that we fulfil our commitments, and the work highlighted in our sustainability report showcases the ways in which we are dedicated to supporting people, society and the environment through our British, locally sourced products.
We’re proud to offer tasty, good for you, nutritious breakfasts and are particularly mindful of the importance of informed choices given the government’s ‘Better Health’ campaign. Weetabix continues to be the UK’s favourite healthy cereal and is already one of the lowest salt, sugar and fat options available. The majority of the cereal we sell has green nutritional ratings. Four of our cereals – Weetabix Original, Weetabix Organic, Oatibix and Ready Brek – were recognised for their excellent health credentials by Public Health England under their Change4Life campaign, as representing a healthy way to start the day.
We pride ourselves on our excellent relationships with suppliers, from our farmers and raw ingredient providers right through to our logistics partners. The strength of these relationships enables us to work closely with partners across our supply chain to ensure the highest standards of ethical and environmental compliance. We remain one of only 135 companies across the world to receive Standard Corporate Certification from The Chartered Institute of Procurement & Supply, we are the only food manufacturer that has been awarded this certification. We work closely with our suppliers and customers to establish mutually beneficial partnerships at all levels – from individual growers to the largest retailers.
We always maintain the highest standards in everything we do. It’s been that way since 1932 – and it’s never going to change.
We’re a significant local employer, with many of our 1,100 employees following in their parents’ and even grandparents’ footsteps. At Weetabix Food Company our purpose is to build better days through better breakfasts. As well as standing for good food you can trust, we are proud to offer a great place to do great work. We are therefore pleased to announce that our median pay gap has reduced from 4.41 to 3.44 percent in the last year, compared to the UK average of 15.4% in 2021.
We believe in inclusion without exception and have a solid strategy in place to ensure that this is ingrained into our culture.
Founded in January 2019, our diversity and inclusion steering team pave the way in ensuring our workplace is diverse and inclusive. We partner with diversity and inclusion experts EDIT Development, and are a major sponsor of the Grocery Aid Diversity in Grocery network, working with retailers and other manufacturers to make a difference in the industry. We continue to communicate, train, and review our efforts, to ensure that Weetabix is a great place to work where our people are supported to fulfil their unique potential. We believe that people do their best work when they can be themselves; it’s our differences that make the difference at Weetabix.
We are proud to support our charity partners FareShare UK and GroceryAid. FareShare UK helps to fight hunger and food waste by redistributing good food to over 11,000 charities, while GroceryAid have been providing emotional, practical, and financial support for grocery people since 1857.
More recently, we’ve been lucky enough to partner with Magic Breakfast, with whom we’ll be providing over 2 million breakfasts to hungry children at school, ensuring they have the fuel for learning. We’ve also been thrilled to see a cause close to our heart gaining continuous momentum and are proud supporters of Marcus Rashford’s Child Food Poverty Task Force, lending our voice to his campaign to ensure no child goes hungry in the UK.
